FAVORITE BRAVES PLAYERS OF THE 1980'S
#52 PAUL RUNGE
ATLANTA BRAVES 1981-1988
Utility infielder Paul Runge played parts of eight seasons for the Braves during the 80's. He never exceeded 100 at-bats in any season. He had all five of his career stolen bases during the 1984 season. He had three of his career four home runs during the 1987 season. But the most interesting stat on Runge was for a game on September 17, 1984. Bob Welch and Pat Zachary of the Dodgers combined to shutout the Braves on three hits that night. But all three hits were from Runge, a player who averaged only ten hits a season during his major league career!
Paul also shared the same name as the 80's National League Umpire. I'd like to tell you that the umpire Paul was the Home Plate umpire during the Brave Paul's three-hit game...but he wasn't.
