FAVORITE BRAVES PLAYERS OF THE 1980'S
#142 GERMAN JIMENEZ
ATLANTA BRAVES 1988
AND ON THE LIST WITHIN A LIST
COMING IN AT #15 ON THE
BRAVES OF THE 80's
MOONLIGHT GRAHAM AWARD
German (sometimes know as Cesar) Jiminez really pitched in too many career games (15) to rank too highly on the Moonlight Graham list, but he did only win one out of seven career decisions during his one major league season.
I do like his one career win. Possibly the Braves worst team of all-time (part of a 106 loss season) goes into Shea Stadium to play the Mets on July 24, 1988 . German (or Cesar) goes up against tough left-hander Sid Fernandez and the Braves play one of the better teams the Mets have ever had (100 win season). So what happens? German (or Cesar) gives up only one run in five innings and Dale Murphy homers and the Braves stun the Mets 4-2. This is why you should never bet on an individual baseball game.
I also like the fact that German (or Cesar) had baseball cards with both of his names on them and German (or Cesar) also proves you don't have to have a great physique to make the big leagues. Didn't they dub this Jiminez vs. Fernandez pitching match-up as the Battle of the Bulge? Maybe not.
