#8 JEFF BURROUGHS

FAVORITE BRAVES PLAYERS OF THE 1970'S
#8 JEFF BURROUGHS
ATLANTA BRAVES 1977-1980

Like Buzz Capra, Jeff rates high on this list largely because of one season. He came over to the Braves from Texas in 1977 for what seemed to be half the Braves team. In his first at bat with the Braves, he smashed a Home Run off J. R. Richard. He immediately went to work bashing home runs to left and right field. What a swing the guy had that year, ending up with 41 for the year! The next year, the pitchers seemed to be pitching around him more. 27 games into the 1978 season, he hit only his third home run, but was batting a whopping .416! But, alas it couldn't last. Jeff did end that year batting .301 with 23 home runs and led the league in On Base percentage, but it was downhill from there and Jeff was traded after the 1980 season.
But what a great '77.
