#9 BUZZ CAPRA

FAVORITE BRAVES PLAYERS OF THE 1970'S
#9 BUZZ CAPRA
ATLANTA BRAVES 1974-1977
1974: a great year...Memories of a simpler time when giants ruled the earth and a man named Buzz ruled the national league. His stay at the top was brief before injuries struck down this mighty warrior, but his year of years will not soon be forgotten by this fan.
Buzz Capra only had one good major league year. That was 1974, when he went 16-8 and won the National League ERA title (2.28). He had all five of his career shutouts that year.
The five shutouts:
May 24: 3-hitter, beat Don Wilson and the Astros 3-0.
June 2: 10-hitter, beat Steve Rogers and the Expos 9-0.
June 7: 3-hitter, beat Dennis Blair and the Expos 3-0.
June 28: 3-hit, 10 innings, beating Don Gullet and the Reds 1-0.
September 3: 6-hitter, beat Randy Jones and the Padres 9-0.
