#19 CRAIG McMURTRY

FAVORITE BRAVES PLAYERS OF THE 1980'S
#19 CRAIG McMURTRY
ATLANTA BRAVES 1983-1986

I realize looking back on this list, I'm only giving Craig such a high spot on this list for his one good season of 1983. That was his rookie year, where he went 15-9 and finished seventh in the Cy Young voting.  Craig pitched a three-hit shutout against the Pirates on May 24, 1983, which lowered his season ERA to 2.32 at the time. That was probably the peak point of Craig's career.

I always liked the fact that Craig looked like a calculus instructor (and a bit like former Laker Kurt Rambis) more than a professional athlete.

Kurt Rambis not Craig McMurtry

The last three years of Craig's Brave career featured 10 wins and 27 losses and he was traded away after the 1986 season.

I also like this 1989 Mother's Cookie card
of Craig while he was with Texas.
