#21 JOHN SMOLTZ

FAVORITE BRAVES PLAYERS OF THE 1980'S
#21 JOHN SMOLTZ

The Braves teams of the 1990's sent five teams to the World Series. This is a mind-blowing number to think about as someone who grew up as a fan during the 70's and 80's. But how do we rate those important 90's players who also played for the team in the 1990's? I'll just do the best I can and clump them all together.

AND ON THE LIST WITHIN A LIST...
COMING IN AT #1 ON THE LIST-
"BRAVES PLAYERS FROM THE 90'S
WHO ALSO HAPPENED TO PLAY IN THE 80'S"
-John Smoltz

John Smoltz, 1989 rookie

80's resume-The Doyle Alexander for John Smoltz trade might be the best the Braves ever made, but his rookie '88 season was an unimpressive 2-7. He turned it around in 1989, with 12 wins and an ERA of 2.94. One of his most interesting games of the season was pitching nine innings and giving up only an unearned run against St. Louis on May 21, 1989. He was lifted for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the ninth and the bullpen gave up five runs to the Cardinals in the top of the 10th.

90's resume-If I had been doing my favorite Braves Players from the 90's, John Smoltz would take my number one position. Elected to the Hall of Fame in 2015, Cy Young award winner, big winner in the post season and ace reliever late in his career. And a Brave all his career except his final uneventful season.

John Smoltz, 1996 Cy Young winner
