FAVORITE BRAVES PLAYERS OF THE 1970'S
#42 CLETE BOYER
ATLANTA BRAVES 1967-1971
Cletis "Clete" Boyer had several good years in the 60's with the Yankees, but also had some pretty good ones with the Braves at the end of his career. Best 70's game may have been a two homer game against Don Sutton and the Dodgers on May 23, 1970. Apparently he didn't always get along so well with Braves management and ended up playing baseball in Japan by 1972. (A similar Yankee-Braves-Japan route that Joe Pepitone would later take). Clete and his brother Ken both had solid major league careers, but his other brother Cloyd gets a couple of extra "Brave points" for being Bobby Cox's pitching coach during the late 70's.
Clete died in Lawrenceville, GA in 2007 at the age of 70.
