FAVORITE BRAVES PLAYERS OF THE 1970'S
#62 CHARLIE SPIKES
ATLANTA BRAVES 1979-1980
A starter for the Indians in the early 70's, "Big Charlie" ended his career as a pinch-hitter for the Braves. He did pretty well in that role, hitting .280 in 1979. I remember the time when Charlie went from second to third on a single. But Charlie wasn't planning on stopping there despite the fact that he was likely going to get thrown out at the plate. After Charlie rounded third, Braves third base coach Bobby Dews practically tackled him to get him to stay at third. (At least that's the way I remember it.)
