FAVORITE BRAVES PLAYERS OF THE 1980'S
#47 ZANE SMITH
ATLANTA BRAVES 1984-1989
Zane was one of the Braves best pitchers from the mid to late 80's on some pretty awful teams. His best year was 1987, when he went 15-10 and led the league in games started. In 1989, Zane started the year losing twelve of his first thirteen decisions and was subsequently traded to Montreal.
Highlight of Zane's Brave career might have been a two-hit shutout against the Dodgers and Orel Hersheiser on April 19, 1986.
And for better or worse, Zane always reminded me of the red-headed Darryl from Newhart.
