FAVORITE BRAVES PLAYERS OF THE 1980'S
#49 LARRY WHISENTON
ATLANTA BRAVES 1977-1982
Larry spent all ten of his professional baseball career in the Braves organization. He got very limited playing time during his first four big league seasons before gaining spot starting duty and becoming a decent pinch-hitter during the division winning 1982 season. His best game was probably a 4-4 performance against the Mets on May 25th of that year. At that point in the season, Larry's batting average was .417, but that was his peak and by the end of the year ihis average sank to .238.
Larry's final at-bat of 1982 and career was a groundout against Joaquin Andujar in game three of the league championship series against the Cardinals.
Since Larry spent so much of his career playing at Richmond, I feel obligated to post one of his minor league cards. |
