FAVORITE BRAVES PLAYERS OF THE 1980'S
#50 LUIS GOMEZ
ATLANTA BRAVES 1980-1981
Shortstop Luis Gomez spent the final two years of his major league career with the Braves, playing in 121 games in 1980. He was a pretty steady fielder, but wasn't much of an offensive force in the least. In 1,251 career games, he never hit a homer. Brave batting average was .191, slightly worse than his career .210 average. He stole six career stolen bases, but was caught stealing 22 times! Let's call his career Brave offensive highlight a bases loaded walk in the ninth inning on May 31, 1980 against the Dodgers, which proved to be the margin of victory. He also had a two-run single in that game, so let's definitely give the game ball to Luis for that day!
I think Luis has at least a passing resemblance to character actor Henry Silva. |
