#112 CHICO RUIZ

FAVORITE BRAVES PLAYERS OF THE 1980'S
#112 CHICO RUIZ
ATLANTA BRAVES 1978-1980

Since I've chosen to list every single player who played for the Braves during the 80's, there is obviously going to be some overlap with some marginal players who made my 70's list, but were still wearing the uniform at the beginning of the Ronald Reagan administration. So here I begin the ten that through a lucky stroke of the calendar made both lists!

AND ON THE LIST WITHIN A LIST...
COMING IN AT #10 ON THE
"BRAVES GUYS I INCLUDED IN THE 70'S LIST AND WASN'T GOING TO INCLUDE ON THE 80'S LIST BUT NOW I HAVE TO SINCE I DECIDED TO LIST EVERY SINGLE PLAYER THAT WORE A BRAVES UNIFORM DURING THE 1980'S"

Chico Ruiz actually hit .308 for the Braves in his one season for the Braves during the 80's. His biggest hit of the decade had to be an RBI double off of Scott Sanderson of the Expos on May 20, 1980, which was the only run of the game in a 1-0 victory for the Braves and Phil Niekro. Chico finished his brief major league career with a .292 average, much higher than his minor league average. Granted, it's a much smaller sampling.

The Braves Chico Ruiz is not to be confused
with the more well-known player named Chico Ruiz
who died in an automobile accident in 1972.
Howard Cosell got them mixed up in
a Monday night broadcast in the 1978, several years
after the senior Ruiz's death.
