FAVORITE BRAVES PLAYERS OF THE 1980'S
#97 DEREK LILLIQUIST
ATLANTA BRAVES 1989-1990
ATLANTA BRAVES 1989-1990
Former University of Georgia Bulldog Derek Lilliquist was one Braves pitching prospect from the late 80's that didn't quite pan out as hoped. He won eight games during his rookie season of 1989, which proved to be the high water mark of his eight year career. He did have several good games that year, including pitching seven innings for the win against the Padres in his major league debut on April 13, 1989.
Derek was also a pretty good hitter, hitting two home runs against Ron Darling and the Mets on May 1, 1990. His batting career ended after heading to the American League in 1992. Damn you, Designated Hitter Rule!
