#89 TONY CASTILLO

FAVORITE BRAVES PLAYERS OF THE 1980'S
#89 TONY CASTILLO
ATLANTA BRAVES 1989-1991

Tony Castillo was 5-1 for a very bad Braves team in 1990.

He won one game in 1991 for a very good Braves team (And they needed every single victory.)

His contribution in the 80's can be summed up as 12 games, no wins, no saves.

So what was this 1991 game all about then? On August 21, the Braves were trailing the Reds going into the top of the ninth in what had been a see-saw affair. Francisco Cabrera connected on a three-run homer to tie the game at 9 and send it into extra innings. The game was still tied in the bottom of the twelfth when Tony came in and retired the Reds despite giving up two walks. The Braves broke through in the 13th on a David Justice RBI double. Tony came back to pitch the bottom of the 13th and gave up another walk and a single, but held on for the win.
