#95 JOSE ALVAREZ

FAVORITE BRAVES PLAYERS OF THE 1980'S
#95 JOSE ALVAREZ
ATLANTA BRAVES 1981-1982, 1988-1989

Jose Alvarez spent parts of fourteen seasons in the minors totalling 354 games pitched. He got his first shot at the big leagues with the Braves in 1981 and 1982 for a grand total of  eight games. He didn't get another shot in the bigs until 1988 (also with the Braves). He pitched okay in relief in the '88 and '89 season with an ERA under 3.00 both years. However, he never made it back to the majors after the 1989 season.

Career highlight might be a three-inning save against the Reds on October 1, 1988, the next to last game of that dreadful Braves season.

Jose Alvarez never had a major league baseball card
until 1989, despite making a major league appearance
as early as 1981. Here is a minor league card of Jose where
he spent the vast majority of his career.
